Barbie, A Fashion Fairytale

My daughter adores Barbie films. It all started when we first watched Barbie Princess and the Pauper, I’m not sure why we first got the film, but I know that after the first viewing she was hooked. We watched that film what seemed like everyday. When Mattel asked if we would like to see the new film Barbie A Fashion Fairytale I knew that it was only going to be a matter of time before my daughter asked to watch it all the time.

This film is a little different from the other Barbie films. All the other Barbie films that have come before were films where Barbie was an actress. That make things more clear (to me apparently Top Ender already knew that Barbie was an actress) and actually made me love all the other Barbie films a little more! So my daughter and I started watching the film together and my son kept one eye on the TV whilst playing with his MegaBloks.

The film is about Barbie needing to get away after Ken dumps her and she doesn’t like the direction her latest film is taking. So Barnie jets off to Paris to see her Aunt, who happens to own a Fashion House. The Fashion House is going to be forced to be closed for not being, well fashionable enough. Barbie finds out that there are some Flairies who like to make beautiful things more beautiful by adding sparkle and glitter to them and so the scene is set for a sparkly happy ending.

We loved watching the first few minutes and seeing the different movie posters in the background of Barbie’s trailer and seeing which films we had on DVD! We watched the rest of the film and were really quite excited about the love story, the fashion and the music which were both undeniably funky. By the end of the film not only were my six year old daughter and I sitting on the sofa, but my two year old son was too!

There are a lot of Barbie toys out to go with the film, which I think is great. I feel that when toys tie in with the film it helps children start using their imagination to act out the film that they remember and of course to get a bit more creative and I do like creative children!

Finding Clothes For Barbie Dolls

Most all girls love to play with barbie dolls. I know my 4 year old daughter sure does. She even tries to get dad to play with her at times! I can remember back in 1959 when fashion Barbie came out. It wasn’t until 1967 when my sister got her first fashion Barbie doll. Barbie has certainly played an important role in the lives of millions of girls around the world.

Barbie dolls come in all different styles and manner of dress. That’s the best part of playing with dolls isn’t it? Girls getting to dress Barbies in different types of fashion. To a degree it is even educational, with a way for younger girls to learn about dressing and how fashion clothing works. I wonder if Mattel thought about the far reaching effects the Barbie doll would have back in 1959?

Many times, Barbie has came under criticism over the years for some of the doll clothes that were made for her. Barbie has been around since 1959 and for a long time many mothers would buy them for their little girls strictly because they had them when they were young. I know that this is what my sister did after she had her first one in 1967. Barbie certainly has a massive selection of fashion clothes, so you can always find Barbie dresses you feel are appropriate.

Although Barbie doll clothes can sometimes be pricey, you can find places to buy them at a good discount. You can find Barbie doll clothes on auctions sites such as eBay, where you can find some incredible deals on fashion clothes. Whether it be from 1959, 1967, or any other year, eBay has it all. Just be sure to check the fashions closely to make sure they are not worn out or the wrong type for your child’s doll.

You can also find Barbie dresses and fashion in retail stores. The Internet is also a good place to look. There are a large number of toy sites that have Barbie doll clothes that cost much less than what you could find in a toy store.

While buying Barbie doll clothes is certainly the most common way to get new fashions, you can also make your own clothes. If you happen to enjoy sewing, this is a great way to add to Barbie’s fashions. You can make an unlimited number of outfits for your child’s doll, and it won’t cost you a mint. You can make just about any kind of Barbie fashion at home, and if you enjoy doing this, you might want to consider turning it into a way to make some good extra money.

Unique Barbie Party Idea: Try a Tea Party and Fashion Show!

The Barbie doll, which will be 50 years old in 2009, has what seems to be an infinite number of lines, including American Idol Barbie, Barbie Magic of Pegasus, and Happy Birthday Barbie. It’s incredible to believe that Ruth Handler created the doll in the early 1950s simply to satisfy her daughter’s desire to play with an adult-looking doll as opposed to a baby. Her husband and Mattel, his employer at the time, did not initially like the idea, but after Handler’s redesign of a German doll, introduced it at a New York City toy fair in 1959. Today, Mattel sells 1.5 million Barbie dolls each week. With the remarkable popularity of Barbie, a party themed after her can be a great afternoon shindig for a young girl.

A Barbie theme party is actually very common. If your daughter wants to have a Barbie party with her friends, but wants to do something unique, an afternoon tea party and fashion show is an idea. The tea party doesn’t have to be extravagant. Whether you use real dishes or not is up to you. However, you might not want to use your best china if the girls are very young. There are plenty of inexpensive tea sets on the market. Your daughter could play host and serve her guests or you could do the honors. Instead of cake and cookies, offering the guests scones, which are perfect with tea, or some other light confection is a good plan. Check with parents to see if there are any special diets that you need to take into consideration.

Young girls (and many grown up ones), love to dress up. The Barbie tea party and fashion show invitations should request that each girl dress up and bring their favorite Barbie. The highlight of the party will be the fashion show. There are two ways to do this. Each girl can describe their own wardrobe and accessories along with what their Barbie is wearing, or you could write something up fun and humorous while the girls are drinking tea and eating. Either way, the girls are sure to have a smashing good time!
